Sly Fox Tavern

Sly Fox Tavern is one of those small, lively spots that manages to feel both well-loved and slightly under the radar. Opened in 2004 by Gerry and Mary McKenna, it’s a proper family-run place, and that hands-on approach still shows. After a full renovation in 2018—including a brand-new kitchen—it’s now firmly in the “great food and proper local pub” category rather than just a drinks spot.

Inside, it’s cosy to the point of being snug. At peak times, it can get loud—more buzz than background noise—so it’s not ideal if you’re after a quiet chat. But if you like a bit of atmosphere, it delivers. In warmer months, the outdoor setup (with covered seating and TVs) is a solid option and gives you a bit more breathing room.

The food is where it really earns its reputation. It goes beyond standard pub fare, with dishes like shrimp tacos, seafood casserole, haddock, and a very well-liked salmon. There’s also a bit of range—curry, pizza, steak tips—so you’re not boxed into one style. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and there’s a clear sense that
the kitchen takes pride in what it puts out.

Service tends to be personal and hardworking. It’s a small team, often juggling a lot at once, but they keep things moving and stay friendly throughout. That adds to the charm rather than taking away from it.

All told, it’s a proper neighborhood gem. Full of character—and well worth a visit if you’re anywhere near Quincy.
